Phase 1 of the WASH project, spearheaded by the Kaydee Foundation and supported by Narayana Health, has made significant strides in addressing infrastructure gaps and fostering community empowerment. Here’s an overview of the key achievements and outcomes of this phase:
Infrastructure Improvements: The project focused on rebuilding water supply systems and constructing functional toilets to address critical infrastructure gaps in rural schools. These improvements provided access to clean water and proper sanitation to create a safer and more hygienic environment for students and staff.
Health Impact: Our project is reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, and cholera through access to clean water and improved sanitation facilities led to a noticeable upliftment in the health of students and staff. It decreases absenteeism due to illness, contributing to better overall educational outcomes.
Increased School Attendance Among Girls: One of the most significant outcomes of the project was the notable increase in school attendance among girls. With access to clean toilets and a hygienic environment, more girls felt comfortable and safe attending school regularly. Thus, this project has improved their educational prospects and promoted gender equality and empowerment within the community.
Promotion of Hygiene Practices: Through education and awareness initiatives among the students and staff, such as handwashing campaigns and hygiene workshops, the project instilled essential hygiene habits that further contributed to better health outcomes.
Community Engagement: The project actively engaged with local communities, school authorities, and other stakeholders throughout the implementation process. This collaborative approach ensured that interventions were curated to the specific needs and aspirations of the target population, fostering a sense of ownership and sustainability.
